What Is Turnkey PCB Assembly

Turnkey PCB Assembly

Turnkey PCB assembly refers to a service in which a supplier takes full responsibility for all the processes from component procurement (BOM sourcing), PCB manufacturing, SMT/THT assembly, testing to final delivery. The customer only needs to provide design files, such as Gerber and BOM, to get the finished circuit board assembly.

Characters of Turnkey PCB Assembly

Characters of Turnkey PCB Assembly

In short, turnkey PCB assembly is about giving design files then getting final products.

  • Simplified Cooperation: A single contact person helps avoid communication distortion across multiple steps.
  • End-to-end Responsibility: One company covers component procurement and inspection, PCB manufacturing, assembly, soldering, functional testing, packaging and shipping. The customer does not need to take responsibility for multiple suppliers.

Turnkey PCB Assembly Workflow

What Processes do Turnkey PCB Assembly Contain Behind Placing Order?

All a buyer has to do is literally “turn the key” — no extra work, setup, or construction is required. The manufacturer will be responsible for all core processes.

DFM

Engineering Review

BOM review, DFM/DFA analysis, manufacturability checking, and component replacement suggestions.

PCB

PCB Manufacturing

PCB fabrication based on Gerber files, including substrate procurement, etching, solder mask, silkscreen, and electroplating.

BOM

Component Procurement

Full BOM sourcing, global procurement, incoming material inspection, MSL baking, material completeness checking, and storage.

SMT

SMT Assembly

Stencil fabrication, solder paste printing, SMD placement with high-precision assembly machines, and reflow soldering.

THT

THT Insertion

Manual insertion of through-hole components, wave soldering insertion, component trimming, and cleaning when applicable.

TEST

Testing & Packaging

Continuity test, AOI, X-Ray, flying probe test, ICT or FCT, final visual inspection, anti-static packaging, labeling, and shipment.

  • Engineering Review: BOM review, DFM/DFA analysis, component replacing suggestions.
  • PCB Bare Board Manufacturing: Arrange PCB fabrication based on Gerber files, including substrate procurement, etching, solder mask, silkscreen, electroplating, and related processes.
  • Full Component Procurement: Based on the BOM provided by the customer, the manufacturer is responsible for global sourcing, procurement, incoming material inspection, MSL baking for moisture-sensitive components, material completeness and storage.
  • SMT Assembly: Steel mesh fabrication, solder paste printing, placement of SMD components using high-precision assembly machines, and reflow soldering.
  • THT Insertion and Welding: Manual insertion of through-hole components or wave soldering insertion, component trimming, and cleaning if applicable.
  • Full Function Testing: Continuity test, AOI, X-ray for BGA and hidden solder joints, flying probe test, ICT, or functional test.
  • Quality Inspection and Packaging: Final visual inspection, environmental or aging tests, anti-static packaging, labels and logistics shipment.
